LEGAL NOTICE

Extension of Qualifying Deadline for Sumner County Commission District 17

For Republican and Democratic Primary Candidates


Notice is hereby given that pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated § 2-5-101(h), the qualifying deadline for Republican and Democratic primary candidates for the office of County Commission District 17 has been extended due to the withdrawal of an incumbent candidate.  Accordingly, qualifying for Republican and Democratic primary candidates for County Commission District 17 shall remain open until 12:00 noon (CST) on Thursday, March 5, 2026.


This extension applies only to primary candidates for the office of County Commission District 17, as authorized under T.C.A. § 2-5-101(h)(3)(A). No other offices are affected by this extension.  Independent candidates are not eligible to qualify during this extended period.


The deadline for withdrawal by any additional qualifying primary candidates under this extension shall be 12:00 noon (CST) on Monday, March 9, 2026.


This notice serves as official public notice of the revised qualifying and withdrawal deadlines.  All other qualifying deadlines, requirements, and procedures not expressly stated herein remain unchanged.

First day to pickup a qualifying petition: Friday, January 9, 2026 
Note: All candidates are required to file an Appointment of Political Treasurer before spending or collecting any money.
Petitions for those running in the primary as well as those running as an Independent share the same deadlines listed above.  Additional candidate information is available under our Resources tab.

         Registering or updating voter records


If you have moved to Sumner County from any other county in TN or from another state you will be required to complete a new registration to be eligible to vote in Sumner County. The registration deadline is 30 days prior to each election. TCA 2-2-109 (a)  You are welcome to register in person, go online, or use printable form as well as register when at the DMV.
